The 2016 BMW 528i has 4 recalls, the most serious involving an electrical short in the wiring connectors that can cause a fire.
The remaining three recalls cover occupant safety. The driver's seatbelt retractor may not lock as designed during hard braking, particularly if the driver has shifted forward in the seat before the belt engages, which reduces the restraint the belt provides in a crash. On the child seat side, the inboard lower anchor on the left rear seat may have been bent downward during manufacturing, preventing a child safety seat from fully latching to both anchors and leaving it insufficiently secured in a collision. There is also a concern with the seat-mounted side airbag: if the inflator's igniter fails to fire, the airbag will not deploy at all, removing a layer of protection in a side-impact crash.
