The 2020 BMW 530e has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the hybrid battery pack, which can develop an internal short circuit and catch fire.
Debris that entered one or more battery cells during production can cause a short circuit inside the hybrid battery, raising the risk of fire or injury to occupants and bystanders. The remaining two recalls both concern the rearview camera. In one case, the camera image may fail to appear on the display at all when the driver shifts into reverse, removing a key source of visibility for what is behind the vehicle. In the other, a software condition can cause the camera image to be missing or significantly reduced in what it shows, again leaving the driver with less rearview information while backing up. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve both camera issues, which is why they appear as separate filings. Owners who rely on the camera display while reversing rather than checking mirrors and looking over their shoulder may not notice a pedestrian or obstacle in the path of the vehicle.
