The 2020 BMW M850i has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the brake system, where anti-lock brakes can stop functioning and power-assisted braking can weaken, both of which raise the risk of a crash during hard stops.
A separate safety equipment recall affects the seatbelt pretensioners in the front seats. In a crash, the pretensioners and airbags can deploy improperly, meaning the belt may not pull tight against the occupant at the right moment, which raises the risk of injury to both the driver and front passenger. Two additional recalls concern rear visibility. The backup camera can fail to display any image at all when reversing, leaving the driver with no view of what is behind the vehicle. A related software issue can cause the rearview camera image to be missing or reduced in size, again cutting off the driver's view when backing up. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve these camera issues, which is why both remain open.
