The 2024 BMW R1300 GS has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk from a starter relay that can absorb moisture, overheat, and melt.
The starter relay issue required two rounds of dealer repairs after the first repair attempt did not fully resolve the problem. On certain motorcycles, the relay was not properly sealed from the factory, allowing moisture in and creating heat buildup that can lead to a fire. The second recall addresses bikes where the initial fix was found to be insufficient.
The remaining two recalls involve the optional BMW Motorrad accessory side case. The lid latch can appear fully closed while not actually being secured, and the lid can fly off the motorcycle at speed, becoming a road hazard for other riders and drivers. As with the relay issue, an earlier repair attempt for this latch defect also proved inadequate, prompting a follow-up recall to complete the fix on bikes that went through the first round of service.
