The 2023 BMW X1 has 7 recalls, the most serious being a brake system defect where a motor inside the integrated brake control module can fail, reducing stopping power, disabling rear hydraulic brakes, and causing the anti-lock braking and stability control systems to stop working.
Two restraint-related recalls cover the second-row outboard seat belts, which can be pinched by an interior trim panel during assembly, preventing them from tensioning properly in a crash. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple filings exist for the same problem. There is also a frontal airbag concern on xDrive28i models: the driver's airbag may have been assembled incorrectly and can fail to deploy in a crash, leaving the driver without that protection.
