The 2026 BMW X1 has 2 recalls, both involving seat belt retractors that may fail to lock properly in a crash, leaving front and rear occupants without adequate restraint.
The front and rear seat belt retractors on certain vehicles have internal components that may have been damaged during production. In the front seats, the torsion bar inside each retractor may be compromised, while in the rear seats, a housing pin in the left or right retractor may be affected. In either case, the retractor can fail to lock the belt during a collision, reducing the protection the belt provides to whoever is seated there.
