The 2004 BMW Z4 has two recalls, the more serious being a fuel pump that can vapor lock under certain conditions, stalling the engine and leaving the driver unable to restart for up to 20 minutes. A stall at speed removes the ability to accelerate or maintain pace with traffic, raising the risk of a crash. The second recall involves the front passenger seat's occupant detection mat, which can wear out over time depending on how frequently passengers get in and out. If the mat fails, the seat may not correctly identify whether an adult is sitting there, which can affect how the front passenger airbag deploys in a crash.
