The 2018 Chevrolet 6500XD has 5 recalls, the most serious involving a starter ground cable that can break and cause electrical current to reroute through the power steering hose, heating it to the point of rupture and creating a fire risk.
Two recalls affect steering control in left turns. A bolt on the left front steering knuckle can come loose, and separately, a jam nut on the steering stopper bolt can back off, both of which increase the turning radius and make the truck harder to steer left. On the electrical side, the chassis wire harness may have been routed too close to a leaf spring hanger bracket, where it can chafe through and damage wiring, potentially causing the engine to stall or reducing anti-lock brake function. There is also a suspension concern: axle stabilizer bracket bolts can crack and break, allowing the bracket to detach from the vehicle and become a hazard for other traffic.
