31 recalls across 18 model years
The Chevrolet Equinox has 31 recalls spanning the 2010 through 2026 model years, with the most serious recent issue being tire tread detachment on 2025–2026 Equinox EV models equipped with 21-inch Continental all-season tires, where partial or full tread separation can cause a sudden loss of vehicle control.
On the 2025–2026 Equinox EV, there are also multiple recalls related to the pedestrian alert sound system, which can fail to produce sufficient volume as the vehicle moves at low speeds, leaving pedestrians unaware of an approaching vehicle. The 2025 all-wheel-drive Equinox EV has a separate issue where the adaptive cruise control can fail to apply the brakes as expected due to incorrect brake module software. The 2025 model also has door strikers that can break and allow a door to open while driving, a concern that carries over to 2024 models with a similar door striker fracture issue. The 2024 Equinox EV has a pedestrian alert system that can also fail to ramp up volume adequately at low speeds.
Moving into the 2022–2023 range, the passenger seat sensor on 2023 models with ventilated front passenger seats can fail to disable the front airbag when a child or child restraint is detected, meaning the airbag could deploy toward a small occupant in a crash. Two separate driver's seat structural recalls affect 2022–2023 models: one involves a loose or stripped bolt at the seat height-adjust pivot, and another on 2022 models involves an improperly welded seat cushion frame, either of which can prevent the seat from properly restraining the driver in a crash. The 2020–2023 rear-seat child seat LATCH anchor bars can have excess coating that prevents a child seat from locking in securely. On 2021–2022 models, the fuel pump module can fail to deliver consistent fuel to the engine, causing stalls, and certain Hankook tires on those same years can experience tread separation.
The 2018–2020 era has several mechanical concerns. On 2018–2020 models, the start/stop accumulator can have missing bolts, leading to a transmission oil leak and potential loss of drive power. The 2019 model has a rear-right seat head-restraint bracket with insufficient welds that can fail in a crash. On 2018 models specifically, the right front intermediate driveshaft can fracture and separate, causing an immediate loss of propulsion, and the high-pressure fuel pump can detach and damage the fuel line, creating a fire risk. The 2018–2019 rear brake caliper pistons can develop gas pockets that reduce rear braking performance, and 2020 rear brake calipers can have swollen seals that cause the brakes to drag and overheat. The 2019–2020 all-wheel-drive models have fuel tanks with a potentially unsealed seam that can leak fuel near an ignition source. The 2021 model year has a separate seatbelt fastener recall where incorrect bolts may have been used to anchor the seatbelt to the vehicle structure. The 2015 model has front seat-mounted side airbag inflators that can rupture on deployment, potentially sending fragments into the cabin rather than inflating properly.
Going further back, the 2014–2015 and 2013 model years share a wiper module issue where corroding ball joints can cause one or both wipers to
