The 2023 Chevrolet Equinox has 3 recalls, the most serious being a cluster of occupant safety concerns that can leave a child unsecured, fire an airbag at an infant, or fail to hold the driver in a crash.
The rear LATCH anchor bars used to lock in child safety seats may be coated too thickly, preventing a child seat from clicking in securely. A seat installed without a firm connection to the anchors can shift or come free in a crash. On vehicles equipped with ventilated front passenger seats, the sensor that detects whether a small child or infant is in that seat may misread the occupant and fail to suppress the passenger airbag, allowing it to deploy with full force toward a child. There is also a structural concern with the driver's seat: a bolt at the height-adjust pivot on the seat frame may be stripped or loose, which means the seat itself may not hold its position during a collision and could fail to properly restrain the driver.
