The 2006 Dodge Ram has 6 recalls, the most serious involving three separate risks of sudden, unexpected vehicle movement: a transfer case that can default to neutral and roll the truck away, rear brakes that can lock up and cause loss of control, and a front wheel bearing that can fail and separate the hub from the vehicle.
The transfer case issue only affects 4x4 models with the NP246 transfer case, where the power module holds an incorrect calibration. The brake issue involves the anti-lock brake control unit allowing rear brakes to lock under certain braking conditions. On the steering side, the front wheel bearing can degrade and eventually allow the hub assembly to break away entirely. Two recalls concern child safety in the front passenger seat: the passenger airbag may not deploy at a safe level for a rear-facing infant seat placed in the full-forward position, and the right front seatbelt may not properly secure some child restraints, raising the risk of injury in a crash. On manual transmission models, a faulty clutch interlock switch can allow the engine to crank and the truck to lurch forward without the clutch being pressed.
