The 2008 Ford E-150 has 7 recalls, all involving wheelchair lift systems installed by various mobility conversion companies, where lift platforms or safety mechanisms can fail and injure a wheelchair occupant.
Several recalls involve Ricon platform-style lifts where the anti-stow interlock may not detect a person on the platform, allowing the lift to begin folding away while someone is still on it. A separate but related issue with those same Ricon lifts involves cracking side plates that can cause the platform to separate and drop against the vehicle's lift door, and worn bearings that allow the stowed platform to shift and eventually break free of its mounting. On the barrier side, Braun NCL-2 and NVL-2 lifts installed by Mobility Specialists can develop bent or misaligned roll stop latches on the outer barrier over time, meaning a wheelchair user could roll past the barrier and off the platform edge. All of these recalls affect vehicles that were modified by third-party mobility converters, so not every E-150 from this model year is involved.
