The 2008 Ford E-350 has 18 recalls, the most serious involving rear brake lines that can lose pressure, a driveshaft that can fracture and separate from the vehicle while driving, and a fuel tank that may lack protective brackets and leak in a severe crash.
On certain electronic news gathering units with an aftermarket rear anti-sway bar, damaged rear brake lines can cause sudden brake failure. On 138-inch wheelbase models, a cracked driveshaft slip yoke can worsen over time and drop the shaft onto the road without warning. Vehicles with school bus prep packages may be missing fuel tank protection brackets, leaving the tank vulnerable to fire in a hard crash. Paratransit vans with certain aftermarket air conditioning units have a fuse holder that can arc and catch fire, and vans with certain wheelchair lift pendant cables can develop a short circuit.
The remaining recalls all involve aftermarket wheelchair lift equipment. Lift platforms on certain Ricon models can crack, lose their bearings, or separate from the lift entirely. On other lifts, the platform can overrun the vehicle floor and tilt steeply enough to tip a wheelchair or cause a standing person to fall. Restraint belts on certain public-use lifts may allow the platform to move before the belt is properly latched, and roll stop latches on some Braun lifts can bend or misalign, allowing a wheelchair to roll off the platform.
