The 2009 Ford E-350 has 18 recalls, the most serious involving fire risks from three separate sources: a fuel tank that can leak in a severe crash, a propane fuel system that can leak on converted vehicles, and an air conditioning evaporator unit that can arc and ignite on paratransit builds.
A rear brake line on certain Electronic News Gathering vehicles fitted with an aftermarket anti-sway bar can lose hydraulic pressure, leaving the driver with reduced or no braking. On school bus prep package vehicles, a fuel tank mounting bracket may need repositioning to prevent tank damage in a crash.
The majority of the remaining recalls involve aftermarket wheelchair lift equipment across several converters and lift models. Ricon lift platforms on certain S and K series models can overrun the vehicle floor and tilt steeply enough to tip a wheelchair or cause a standing person to fall. Platform side plates on other Ricon models can crack and cause the platform to separate, and bearing movement in folding link arms can cause the stowed platform mounting to fail. On certain Ricon public use lifts, a restraint belt that is supposed to prevent lift movement may not engage properly. Braun NCL-2 and NVL-2 lifts have roll stop latches that can bend or misalign over time, allowing a wheelchair to roll past the outer barrier. There is also a wiring concern on certain Ricon lifts where an optional armored pendant cable can contact an electrical lug and cause a short circuit.
