The 2018 Ford E-350 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving aftermarket foldaway seat back cushions that may not stay locked under load, leaving an occupant without proper support in a sudden stop or crash.
Two recalls cover brake light malfunctions on E-350-based ambulances and emergency vehicles equipped with Whelen brake lights. In both cases, the lights can illuminate when the driver has not pressed the brake pedal, giving following drivers a false signal that the vehicle is slowing. This can lead to confusion and erratic reactions from traffic behind the vehicle. These recalls stem from separate ambulance upfitters but describe the same underlying hazard. There is also a backup camera concern on shuttle bus conversions: the monitor displaying the camera image can revert to factory default settings, which causes the image to appear mirrored. A driver relying on that reversed image may steer in the wrong direction to avoid an obstacle, turning toward it rather than away.
