The 2014 Ford F-550 SD has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk on vehicles modified with certain power take-off assemblies, where oil can leak from a pressure switch onto the exhaust heat shield and ignite.
Note that all four recalls affect vehicles that have been modified or upfitted by third-party companies, so not every F-550 SD is covered. On the suspension side, certain trucks modified by Life Line Emergency Vehicles with aftermarket Liquid Spring suspension kits have a mounting bracket that can crack and drop the suspension fluid tank onto the road, creating a hazard for other vehicles. There is also a powertrain concern on trucks built with ambulance or fire engine preparation packages: a software condition in the transmission control module can cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly, which on an emergency vehicle can delay response time and put patients or bystanders at greater risk.
