The 2013 Ford Transit Connect has 4 recalls, all centered on powertrain concerns, with the most serious being a shift cable or bushing failure that can leave the transmission in a different gear than the shifter shows, allowing the vehicle to roll unexpectedly if the driver exits without applying the parking brake.
Two of the recalls describe the same underlying issue: the bushing connecting the shifter cable to the transmission can degrade or fall off, preventing the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear and causing it to move in an unintended direction. This affects vehicles with either the 1.6L or 2.5L engine depending on the recall. The remaining recall applies only to 1.6L turbocharged models and involves a separate risk: if the engine is started and driven with low coolant, the cylinder head can overheat and crack, leaking oil onto hot engine or exhaust surfaces and raising the risk of an engine fire.
