2018 FORD TRANSIT Recalls — Canada & USA

The 2018 Ford Transit has 11 recalls, the most serious being a driveshaft joint failure on vehicles modified with an XL hybrid system, where the front driveshaft can detach and cause sudden loss of drive power. The largest cluster of recalls involves aftermarket foldaway seat installations across vehicles modified by several different upfitters. In each case, the Freedman GO-ES foldaway seat back cushion can fail to lock in place when folded into the upright position, leaving occupants without proper support in a crash or hard stop. A separate structural concern affects Transit vehicles fitted with aftermarket glass roof hatches, where heat and vibration can shatter the tempered glass panel and drop fragments onto passengers. On the mechanical side, a driveshaft damper service kit may have been incorrectly installed, allowing the damper shield to wear into the parking brake cable and cause the parking brake to fail, leaving the vehicle free to roll. There is also a camera concern on certain Transit models where the rearview camera can display a distorted, flipped, or blank image when reversing, reducing visibility behind the vehicle.
