2016 FORD TRANSIT Recalls — Canada & USA

The 2016 Ford Transit has 17 recalls, the most serious involving a corrosion risk in the trailer tow module wiring that can cause an electrical short and a potential fire, trigger unwanted seatbelt pretensioner deployment, or disrupt turn signals and the instrument panel. On the drivetrain side, a flexible coupling between the transmission and driveshaft can fail prematurely, leaving the van unable to move and potentially allowing the driveshaft to strike and damage brake and fuel lines. Vehicles modified with an XL hybrid system face a related issue where the front driveshaft universal joint can fail and detach entirely, causing sudden loss of drive power. Vans equipped with the 3.2L diesel engine also have a separate concern: metallic debris can clog the fuel injectors or fuel volume control valve and stall the engine. Several recalls affect modified vans fitted with Freedman GO-ES foldaway seats, where the seat back cushion can fail to lock in place during a hard stop or crash, leaving occupants without proper support. A parking brake cable can also be damaged by contact with a driveshaft damper shield, potentially allowing the van to roll when parked. On the passive safety side, side curtain airbags on certain model years can deploy in the wrong direction in a crash, rear seatbelt buckles can be damaged by impact and fail to latch, and the rearview camera can show a distorted or blank image when reversing.
