The 1994 GMC C Series has 4 recalls, the most serious being a suspension bolt that can fatigue and break, allowing the left front lower control arm to separate from the frame and cause a sudden, complete loss of steering control.
The brakes account for the remaining three recalls. The most critical brake issue involves a missing or improperly seated brake pedal push rod retainer, which can allow the brake booster push rod and stop lamp switch to disconnect from the pedal, leaving the driver with no braking ability. On vehicles equipped with auto-apply parking brakes, a solenoid coil failure can cause the parking brake to engage unexpectedly at speed, or water contamination can cause it to release slowly or apply sluggishly. There is also a wiring issue where reversed polarity on the brake light switch causes the contacts to wear prematurely, eventually leaving the truck with no brake lights and no indication to drivers behind that the vehicle is slowing.
