1996 GMC C Series

The 1996 GMC C Series has 3 recalls, the most serious being a fuel leak at the fuel rail assembly that can ignite in the engine compartment if a spark or heat source is nearby.

The rear suspension also carries a significant risk: the four u-bolt nuts that clamp the rear axle to the leaf springs may be under-torqued, allowing the bolts to work loose and eventually fall away entirely. Once free, the rear axle can shift and feed unintended steering inputs into the vehicle, pulling it off course without warning. On the engine side, the center bolt securing the crankshaft balancer may also be under-torqued. The balancer keeps engine vibration in check and also drives the accessory belt, so if the bolt backs out and the balancer separates from the crankshaft, the driver can lose power steering, the alternator, and cooling fan drive simultaneously while the balancer itself becomes a hazard beneath the vehicle.
