2013 GMC Sierra 1500

The 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the passenger-side front airbag inflator, which can explode and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

This airbag concern applies to vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories, including Florida, Texas, Hawaii, and others in that climate zone, where moisture accelerates deterioration of the inflator. If the airbag deploys, the inflator can rupture rather than inflate normally, turning the component itself into a hazard for everyone in the front of the vehicle. Prior repair attempts on some of these vehicles did not fully resolve the issue, which is why more than one recall addresses this defect.

The third recall covers a piece of onboard safety equipment: certain vehicles equipped with either plastic-handle or push-button fire extinguishers may find that the extinguisher fails to discharge properly when needed. If a fire breaks out and the extinguisher does not work, the occupant loses a critical tool for managing the situation before it worsens.
