The 2019 GMC Sierra 3500 has 7 recalls, with the most serious being roof rail airbag inflators that can rupture or shed their end caps, sending metal fragments into the cabin and raising the risk of injury.
The airbag defect covers Crew Cab configurations and affects both left and right side roof rail inflators. On the fuel system side, trucks equipped with the optional dual fuel tank can experience a collapsing rear tank that cuts off fuel transfer to the front tank, causing the engine to stall while driving. There are also two fire-related concerns tied to the optional engine block heater on trucks equipped with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel: the heater cable or its connection terminals can develop an electrical short that may ignite a fire in the engine compartment.
