The defect affects the curtain airbags that run along the roofline on both the driver and passenger sides. If the inflator end cap breaks loose or the inflator wall gives way, compressed gas escapes suddenly and can launch the cap or pieces of the inflator toward occupants, raising the risk of injury whether or not a crash occurs.
