The 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 has 3 recalls, the most serious being a brake system defect that can cause an electrical short and raise the risk of fire, and a diesel-only transmission issue where the rear wheels can lock up without warning.
On the brake side, the assembly holding the brake pressure modulator valve together may not be properly sealed, allowing water to get inside and short out the electrical components, which can lead to a fire. The transmission concern only affects diesel-equipped trucks: a control valve inside the transmission can fail and cause the rear wheels to suddenly lock up, which can send the vehicle into a skid or loss of control. The third recall involves power-unlatching tailgates, where a water-damaged gate-release switch can trigger the tailgate to swing open on its own while the truck is parked or moving, dropping any unsecured cargo onto the road and creating a hazard for other drivers.
