The 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 has two recalls, the more serious being a transmission control valve that can cause the rear wheels to lock up suddenly, raising the risk of a crash. A prior repair attempt for this transmission issue did not fully resolve the problem on some vehicles, leaving the defect active. The second recall affects trucks equipped with power-unlatching tailgates: water can get into the electronic gate-release switch and cause a short circuit, which may trigger the tailgate to swing open on its own while the truck is moving, dropping cargo onto the road.
