The 2007 GMC Sierra has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the airbag system: the passenger frontal airbag inflator on 2500HD and 3500HD models can rupture during deployment, sending fragments toward occupants, and a corroded airbag control module can cause airbags to fail entirely.
The airbag control module corrosion issue affects vehicles exposed to road salt, snow, or water that soaks through the floor carpet, and prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the problem, leading to a second filing covering the same defect. On the electrical side, there are two separate fire risks. Trucks equipped with the optional dual battery setup have an undocumented amperage limit on the auxiliary battery circuit, and an overloaded fusible link can damage nearby components and start a fire. Separately, vehicles with a heated windshield washer fluid system can develop an electrical fault that causes other features to stop working, produces smoke or odor, and raises the risk of fire.
