The 2018 GMC Sierra has 3 recalls, all centering on the same serious issue: side curtain airbags that can deploy without any crash, sending fragments and hardware toward the driver and passengers.
The defective inflators can rupture and fire without warning, meaning occupants could be struck by debris during normal driving. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple campaigns now exist for this same defect. The risk applies to both the driver and passenger sides of the cabin, and any occupant seated near a door could be in the path of propelled parts if an inflator lets go unexpectedly.
