1984 Hyundai Pony

The 1984 Hyundai Pony has 3 recalls, the most serious being a hood that can fly open without warning while driving, blocking the driver's forward view entirely.

A dust shield on the secondary hood latch can be installed incorrectly during servicing. If the primary hood release cable also seizes, the secondary latch becomes the only thing holding the hood down, and an improperly seated dust shield can prevent it from doing its job, sending the hood up at speed. On the cabin side, a heater control valve mounted under the dashboard can rupture while the engine is at normal operating temperature, spraying hot coolant onto the driver's feet and legs. The third recall involves the windshield wiper linkage, which can pop free from the wiper motor arm under heavy load from wet snow or thick ice, leaving the wipers stopped mid-sweep and cutting the driver's forward visibility during the exact conditions when it is needed most.
