The 2004 Jeep Liberty has 7 recalls, the most serious being corrosion-related fractures of the rear suspension lower control arms that can cause sudden loss of steering and directional control, raising the risk of a crash.
Several other significant issues round out the list. The fuel tank can fail and leak in certain rear-end collisions, and if an ignition source is present, that leak can result in a fire. On the electrical side, valve cover studs can rub against the fuel injector and alternator wiring harnesses; damage to the fuel injector wiring can cause the engine to stall, while damage to the alternator wiring can start an underhood fire. There is also an airbag concern: the frontal airbag control module can trigger unintended deployment, raising the risk of injury and a crash. Rounding out the list, a software issue in the body control module can cause the power door lock motors to run continuously, overheat, and seize, leaving the door locks inoperative.
