All four recalls address the same underlying defect in the Takata passenger-side frontal airbag inflator. Over time, the inflator's propellant can degrade, causing it to burst with far more force than intended when the airbag deploys. Instead of a controlled inflation, the metal housing can fracture and scatter sharp fragments toward the front passenger and potentially other occupants. These recalls apply to vehicles that were sold or ever registered in high-humidity regions, including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where moisture accelerates the propellant breakdown.
