The 2006 Lexus LX470 has 3 recalls, the most serious being a steering shaft defect and a side curtain airbag issue that can both raise the risk of serious injury to occupants.
A snap ring on the steering shaft can disengage after a hard impact to the front wheels, causing a sudden loss of steering control. Separately, the side curtain airbags can deploy without warning under normal driving conditions, potentially striking an occupant who is not braced for a deployment. There is also a frontal airbag concern: certain vehicles may have been fitted with an incorrect driver or front passenger airbag that does not deploy as intended in a crash, leaving the occupant without the cushioning that airbag is designed to provide.
