The 2005 Maserati Quattroporte has 4 recalls, the most serious involving two chassis defects: corroding rear suspension tie rods that can break and cause sudden loss of steering control, and suspension ball joint nuts that may not have been tightened correctly and can loosen over time, also leading to loss of control.
On the electrical side, a short circuit in the wiring inside the outer door handle can trigger the door latch mechanism and allow a door to open on its own without the occupant touching the handle. The central locking system limits this risk at speeds above about 6 mph, but the door can still open unexpectedly at low speeds. There is also a labeling concern: a button marked "passenger airbag off," located near the sunroof controls, does not actually deactivate the passenger airbag, and the LED beside it does not indicate airbag status. Owners who believe they have turned off the passenger airbag using this button have not done so.
