The 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 has 6 recalls, the most serious being a fuel pump that can shut down without warning and cut drive power, and a 48-volt ground cable in the engine compartment that can overheat and start a fire.
On the safety equipment side, the rear seatbelt retractors can deactivate too early, preventing a child safety seat from locking in place securely during a crash. Vehicles with a heated leather steering wheel have a separate concern: the hands-off detection system can stop working, which disables the DISTRONIC driver assistance features, including steering wheel grab warnings and the automatic emergency stop function that calls first responders. There are also two electrical recalls tied to emergency communication: the eCall system, which contacts emergency services automatically after a crash, can become disabled, and a separate battery-related issue can knock out the eCall system along with hazard lights, power seat adjustment, and automatic door locks at the moment they may be needed most.
