2014 Mitsubishi I-Miev

The 2014 Mitsubishi i-MiEV has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator, which can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, risking serious injury or death.

The remaining two recalls both concern the brake assist vacuum pump, which is the component that gives the brake pedal its normal stopping power. In one case, a software fault or road salt corrosion can cause the pump to stop working, requiring a longer distance to bring the car to a stop. In the other, water can get inside the pump, corrode it from within, and cause a sudden loss of brake assist, again leaving the driver with a noticeably harder pedal and reduced stopping ability. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, which is why it appears across more than one recall campaign. Together, these brake pump failures raise the risk of a crash in any situation where a quick, controlled stop is needed.
