The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has 5 recalls, with one of the most notable being a door latch that can fail in high temperatures and allow a door to swing open while the vehicle is moving. The liftgate's gas strut cylinders can corrode and lose pressure, causing the strut to rupture or the liftgate to drop unexpectedly on whoever is standing beneath it. On the braking side, the parking brake shaft inside the rear caliper can rust and seize, either dragging the brakes during driving or reducing holding power enough that a parked vehicle can roll away if left out of gear. There is also a seatbelt concern: folding down the second-row seat backs can cause the center buckle to press against the right-side buckle, potentially leaving an occupant unable to properly latch their belt before a crash.
