The 2021 RAM 4500 has 6 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk tied to the intake heater grid relay on diesel-equipped trucks, which can short circuit and ignite an engine compartment fire even with the ignition off.
Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, and multiple campaigns address the same underlying relay defect on 6.7L Cummins-equipped vehicles. On the wheel side, incorrect torque specifications in the owner's and service manuals can lead to over-tightened lug nuts that break wheel studs, potentially causing a wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving. There is also a steering concern: the steering column control module can prevent the driver's side airbag from deploying in a crash, reducing occupant protection in a front-end collision.
