The 2022 RAM 4500 has 5 recalls, the most serious being engine control module failures that can cut drive power without warning or cause the engine to stall and refuse to restart, raising the risk of a crash. All recalls on this vehicle apply to models equipped with the Cummins 6.7L turbo diesel engine, with the exception of the steering recall noted below.
Two of the remaining recalls involve a fire risk that can occur even with the ignition off. The heater grid relay in the engine compartment can develop an electrical short that ignites a fire whether the truck is running or parked. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, and a second campaign was filed to address vehicles where the first remedy was insufficient.
On the safety equipment side, the steering column control module can interfere with the driver's airbag, preventing it from deploying in a crash. This recall covers a broader range of Ram trucks and does not require the diesel engine to apply.
