The 2023 RAM 4500 has 5 recalls, the most serious being an electrical short in the heater grid relay on diesel-equipped trucks that can cause an engine compartment fire even with the ignition off.
The clockspring, a rotating electrical connector in the steering column, can fail and prevent the driver's airbag from deploying in a crash. On trucks fitted with a Curt trailer hitch, the assembly may have been installed with too few mounting bolts, allowing it to loosen and fall off, creating a hazard for other vehicles on the road. Two recalls address the same turn signal and high beam behavior: the steering column control module can cause turn signals to stay on or briefly flash in the opposite direction after a lane change or turn, and can also trigger the high beams to activate when the turn signal is used, or vice versa, confusing other drivers about the truck's intended movements.
