The 2025 RAM 4500 has 7 recalls, the most serious being a software fault that can shut down the occupant restraint controller while driving, disabling airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and electronic stability control simultaneously.
When the restraint controller goes offline, the vehicle loses its ability to deploy airbags or fire pretensioners in a crash, and the stability control system that helps prevent skids and rollovers stops working as well. Warning lights for the airbag, ABS, and seatbelt reminder will illuminate when this happens, but the protections themselves are already gone. There is also a trailer towing concern: a faulty trailer tow module can cause the trailer's brake lights and turn signals to go dark and the trailer brakes themselves to stop responding, leaving drivers behind you with no warning of slowing or turning and reducing your ability to stop a loaded trailer. The remaining recalls all point to the same problem from different angles: a software error can cause the instrument panel cluster screen to go blank, either at startup or while driving. Depending on which screen size a vehicle has, the 3.5-inch cluster or the 12-inch cluster can both be affected by this fault. When the display goes dark, the driver loses visibility into gear selection, warning indicators, and other tell-tales that communicate the vehicle's status. All three instrument panel filings describe the same real-world result, with the driver left without critical readouts needed to operate the truck safely.
