The 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara has 4 recalls, the most serious being two fire risks: a fuel pressure spike in extreme cold that can force fuel out at a pipe-to-hose connection, and a cracked accelerator cable cap that can fray the inner cable.
In temperatures below -25 degrees Celsius, moisture can freeze inside the fuel pressure regulator, causing pressure to build sharply at engine startup and fuel to leak from the connection between the fuel pipe and fuel hose. Fuel near any ignition source in that condition can ignite. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why it appears more than once. On the throttle side, the plastic cap securing the accelerator cable to the firewall can crack over time, and as the cable moves through the damaged cap, the inner cable can fray, potentially affecting throttle control. The fourth recall is a paperwork correction: a compliance label on certain vehicles uses the wrong abbreviation for a weight rating, with no mechanical defect involved.
