On certain vehicles, brake fluid can enter the brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) and cause a short circuit.
Note: This problem may cause the ABS warning light to turn on.
Safety Risk
A short circuit could create a fire risk.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an inspection. If there is a brake fluid leak in the HECU, it will be replaced. Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.
On certain cars equipped with a 3.3 L T-GDI engine, an engine compartment fire could occur while driving. Kia believes that a fire could start in or near the brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU).
Note: This recall does not affect vehicles equipped with Smart Cruise Control (SCC).
Safety Risk
The car could catch fire while driving.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a new fuse kit. The kit contains two new fuses of 25A instead of 40A, which are designed to prevent an over-current condition.
On certain motorcycles, the front brake calipers may leak a small amount of brake fluid when parked. Over a long time, this could empty the fluid reservoir. If this happens, the motorcycle will have reduced brake performance.
Note: This problem may result in brake fluid on the front tire or wheel, and on the ground after the motorcycle has been parked for an extended period. The owner's manual has information for how to check the brake fluid level before riding.
Safety Risk
Reduced front brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to inspect the front brakes. The calipers will be replaced, if necessary.
On certain vehicles, the front brake hoses could fail, causing a progressive brake fluid leak. If this happens, the driver may experience a change in brake pedal feel and travel. This can cause reduced brake performance.
Note: A brake fluid leak would cause the brake warning light to turn on.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake performance could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front brake hoses.
On certain motorcycles with antilock brakes (ABS), there may be air within the brake system. This could cause a soft brake lever/pedal feel and a reduction in brake performance.
Note: This is an expansion of recall 2019-112.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake performance could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to perform a fluid bleed of the front and rear brake circuits.
On certain vehicles, the software for the electronic stability control system (ESP) was not programmed correctly. As a result, the ESP system may not function as intended in certain driving situations.
Safety Risk
A stability control system that does not work properly could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the ESP system.
On certain motorcycles, the instrument cluster does not have an antilock brake system (ABS) malfunction warning lamp. As a result, there is no warning to the rider if the ABS turns off due to a malfunction.
Safety Risk
If a rider is not warned that the ABS is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
Royal Enfield will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the instrument cluster.
On certain vehicles, the front brake caliper mounting bolts may not be properly tightened. This could cause the bolts to loosen, which may result in reduced brake effectiveness.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake effectiveness could cause an increase in stopping distance and create the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front brake caliper mounting bolts.
On certain vehicles, the front brake caliper mounting bolts may not be properly tightened. This could cause the bolts to loosen, which may result in reduced brake effectiveness. If the bolts fall out, the caliper could also come in contact with the wheel rim and cause a loss of vehicle control.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake effectiveness could cause an increase in stopping distance and create the risk of a crash. A loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to check the tightening torque of the front brake caliper mounting bolts. If a bolt is missing, the caliper and remaining bolt will be replaced.
On certain trucks, brake fluid could leak from the brake master cylinder front wheel circuit into the brake booster. If this happens, the driver may experience increased brake pedal travel and increased pedal effort. This can cause reduced front brake performance. Full braking function remains in the rear wheel circuit.
Note: Depending on the amount of brake fluid loss, the driver may hear a warning chime and see a red brake warning indicator in the instrument cluster.
Safety Risk
Reduced front brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the brake master cylinder.
On certain motorcycles, the rear brake hose may fail due to overheating from extreme braking. If this happens, braking can only be done using the front brake. This would reduce braking performance.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
KTM will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the rear brake line and hardware with improved parts.
On certain trucks equipped with a gasoline engine, the left-rear brake line may contact a grounding bolt. Over time, this could cause damage that can result in a brake fluid leak. If this happens, brake performance could be reduced.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Isuzu will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the left-rear brake line to ensure it was installed properly. If not, the brake line will be replaced. If replacement parts are not available, the brake line will be repositioned as an interim measure and replaced when parts become available.
On certain vehicles, the front brake hoses may contact the fender liners. This could cause damage to the hoses that can result in a brake fluid leak. If this happens, brake performance could be reduced.
Note: A brake fluid leak can cause the low brake fluid warning to turn on.
Safety Risk
Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front brake hoses. If the hoses are damaged, they will be replaced. Additionally, the front fenders liners will be cut to prevent future damage.
This recall affects certain motorcycles equipped with optional colour-specific brake fluid reservoir covers. Canadian regulations require that certain safety information is provided on the brake fluid reservoir cover. On these motorcycles, that information may be missing or difficult to read. This could lead to improper maintenance of the brake system, like using the wrong type of brake fluid.
Safety Risk
Improper maintenance of the brake system could lead to brake problems and create the risk of a crash.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the brake fluid reservoir cover.
On certain vehicles, the automatic emergency braking system (AEB) may not apply the brakes automatically when it detects a possible collision. In addition, the system may not warn of a potential crash with a non-moving vehicle or object.
Note: The regular brake system and all other functions in the vehicle are not affected by this problem.
