On certain motorcycles, the rear wheel rim may crack and cause a sudden loss of air pressure. This could cause the rider to lose vehicle control, which may result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
On certain vehicles, the wheel nuts may have been insufficiently tightened during vehicle assembly. If the wheels have not yet been removed and replaced due to winter tire installation or tire rotation, the wheel nuts may loosen, resulting in possible damage to the wheel studs and/or wheel(s). This could also lead to a complete separation of the wheel(s) from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will perform a tire rotation during which the wheel nuts are tightened to specification.
Triumph Motorcycles (Triumph) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Daytona 675 and Street Triple motorcycles and 2012 Thunderbird and Thunderbird Storm motorcycles. The wheels were assembled with bearings of an unknown quality.

Remedy
Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected bearings free of charge. Owners may contact Triumph at 1-678-854-2010 for more information.
On certain motorcycles, wheel bearings from an unapproved supplier were installed during the manufacturing process. Confidence in the bearing is low since Triumph has no details regarding the bearing supplier, or its quality controls and standards. The durability and performance of these bearings is thereby unknown. Bearing failure could cause a crash resulting in property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wheel bearings.
On certain vehicles, the wheel rims may have been manufactured incorrectly and could fail. A wheel separating from the vehicle could cause a loss of control and a crash. In addition, the errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wheel rims.
On certain motorcycles, cracks may develop in the rear wheel spokes, which could cause the wheel assembly to fail. Rear wheel failure could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the rear wheel rim with an updated version.
On certain vehicles, the 17 inch steel wheels, whether factory installed or sold as accessory replacement parts, may experience a reduction in wheel stud clamp load. This can cause wheel stud failure, which could result in wheel separation. A wheel separating from the vehicle could cause a loss of control and a crash. In addition, the errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the lug nuts on all four wheels. They will also inspect the rear brake rotors and replace them as necessary.
On certain motorcycles, the tire inner tube(s) might have been pinched and damaged during tire mounting. Loss of air pressure could cause the rider to lose vehicle control, which may result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect both inner tubes and replace them if damaged.
On certain vehicles, the wheel retention system may fail. A wheel separating from the vehicle could cause a loss of control and a crash. In addition, the errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, property, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the central wheel lock bolts.
Certain motorcycles may have been assembled with an incorrectly manufactured rear wheel. The wheel could crack and fail during use, which could result in a vehicle crash causing personal injury or death. Certain wheel assemblies, sold over-the-counter as accessory parts, are also involved.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will remove the rear wheel and inspect the manufacturer's code. Wheels that are marked with the code "R1" or "R2" will be replaced.
On certain motorcycles, the front wheel quick-release axle may not have been manufactured to specifications. The quick-release axle might be of reduced wall thickness which, under severe loads (off-roading, for example), could cause the axle to break. This could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death.
NISSAN IS RECALLING 3,403 MY 2009 ALTIMA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 16-INCH ALLOY WHEELS. SOME THESE WHEELS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO SPECIFICATION. THIS COULD CAUSE ONE OR MORE OF THE FIVE LUG NUTS ATTACHING THE WHEEL TO THE VEHICLE TO BECOME LOOSE.
Safety Risk
IF THE LUG NUTS BECOME LOOSE, IT COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF IT IS EQUIPPED WITH ONE OF THE AFFECTED WHEELS. IF IT IS, THE WHEELS WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEW ONES THAT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO THE CORRECT SPECIFICATION. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
The wheels of certain Police Interceptor vehicles may crack, particularly when exposed to severe loading in high speed pursuit situations. Often cracked wheels can be identified as a result of slow air leaks, steering wheel nibble, or difficulty or inability to properly balance a wheel and tire assembly. In time, the cracks could propagate circumferentially and lead to sudden air loss, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash.
On certain vehicles, due to the fitment of road wheel fixing bolts that may be dimensionally incorrect, the potential exists for these bolts to loosen. This could lead to the road wheel becoming detached from the hub, which may result in a vehicle crash causing injury or death.
On certain motorcycles equipped with cross-spoke wheels and the optional tire-pressure monitoring system (TPM), the hole though which the tire inflation valve (and in this case, the integral TPM sensor) is inserted was not manufactured according to specifications. Because of this, the valve may not seat properly in the hole, and a leak may develop. In some cases, it is possible that sudden deflation of the tire could occur. If this happened, motorcycle handling and control would be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will temporarily deactivate the TPM system, remove the corresponding valves and integral TPM sensors, and then replace them with standard valves. When a permanent repair is available, owners will be notified to bring their vehicle in for reactivation of the TPM system and replacement of the integral TPM sensors and valves.
Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 120 - Tire rim designation. These vehicles have an incomplete tire rim designation indicated on the compliance label. If a customer replaces a wheel with one that has a rim contour that is inappropriate for use with the tires on the vehicle, the mounting of the tire to the wheel and/or the tire/wheel assembly may not perform as designed/intended. In addition, certain vehicles are also missing the tire load rating on the label. If a tire of a lesser load rating than the original tire is installed, the tire may not be able to sustain the loads encountered during use.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a new partial label over the existing label. Corrected labels and application instructions will be mailed to customers. Dealers will receive labels for installation on the vehicles in inventory.
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE WHEEL SPACER MAY BECOME DISTORTED FROM HEAT WHICH POTENTIALLY COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF CLAMP THAT MAY RESULT IN LOOSE WHEEL NUTS.
Safety Risk
IF THE WHEEL NUTS LOOSEN FOR ANY REASON, DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL STUDS AND WHEEL MAY OCCUR, AND MAY LEAD TO A COMPLETE SEPARATION OF THE WHEELS FROM THE TRUCK WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WHEEL SPACERS AND THE WHEEL EQUIPMENT (WHEELS,STUDS, AND HUB) WILL BE INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 26, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO TRUCKS AT 1-800-528-6586.
On certain vehicles, the material specification of the wheel spacer may not be suitable for some applications where severe operating conditions can result in degradation of the wheel spacer. This could lead to a loss of clamp load, which may result in loose wheel nuts. If the wheel nuts loosen for any reason, damage to the wheel studs and/or wheel may occur, which if left uncorrected, may lead to complete separation of the wheel(s) from the vehicle.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the wheel spacers and inspect and replace (as required) the wheels and wheel equipment.
