On a small number of vehicles, the driver-front airbag inflator could rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. If this happens, the airbag may not properly inflate and fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants.
Safety Risk
An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury or death.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the driver-front airbag module.

On certain vehicles, a defect in the occupant classification system wiring could cause the system to fail to detect a child or small stature adult seated in the front passenger seating position, instead detecting an unoccupied seat and disabling the passenger airbag. The defect could also cause the system to fail to detect a child car seat installed in the passenger seat and not disable the passenger airbag. This could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant in a crash.
Safety Risk

Remedy
Dealers will correct the wiring harness configuration.

On certain vehicles, side airbag wiring connections could develop high resistance, illuminating the airbag warning light. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, resistance may continue to increase over time and eventually cause the seat side airbags and seat belt pretensioners to not deploy in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of injury.
Safety Risk

Remedy
Dealers will affect repairs.

On certain vehicles, a defect in the airbag control unit could cause the airbag warning light to turn on. If this happens, the airbag system may not work properly, and the airbags may not inflate in a crash.
Safety Risk
An airbag system that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the airbag control unit software. If the airbag warning light is on because of diagnostic trouble code B1620, the dealer will replace the airbag control unit.

Certain 2002 model Lexus ES300 vehicles, during air bag deployment, it is possible that the bottom seam of the front driver's side air bag module cover (horn pad) could be torn away allowing the bottom portion of the cover to completely detach from the air bag module. If this should occur, there is a possibility that the detached bottom portion may strike the driver causing personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
dealers will replace the driver's side air bag module.

Honda Canada is conducting a voluntary Safety Improvement Campaign concerning the driver's airbag inflator on certain vehicles equipped with Takata airbags. Honda will replace the driver's inflator on affected vehicles. This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Note: This special service campaign was replaced by recall 2015225. Please see recall 2015225 for more information:

On certain vehicles, the circuits within the airbag control module could be damaged in a crash. This could cause the airbags and seat belt pretensioners to not deploy in certain crashes.
Safety Risk
Airbags or seat belts that do not work properly in a crash could create an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install an electrical noise filter to prevent damage to the airbag control module.
Certain vehicles may contain loose passenger airbag inflator mount nuts inside the passenger airbag module assembly. In the event of a crash requiring a passenger airbag deployment, a loose nut inside the passenger airbag module could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the passenger airbag module assembly.

On certain vehicles, the trim cover for the passenger-side knee airbag could be defective and could detach during deployment in very cold temperatures. This may create a risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the passenger-side knee airbag module and the trim cover.
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Depending on the model, dealers will either replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator or airbag assembly.

On certain cars, exposure to moisture over time could cause the driver-front airbag not to inflate properly in a crash. In some cases, this could cause an airbag not to fully inflate, while in others it could cause it to deploy with more force than normal. It could also cause the inflator to rupture. If the airbag inflator ruptures, small pieces of metal could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent its proper function.
Note: This recall affects cars built between July 1, 1998 and November 30, 1998. BMW has advised Transport Canada that cars built in this period are at a higher risk of failure than in other recalls.
Safety Risk
In a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the driver-front airbag may not inflate properly or the inflator could rupture. This could create a risk of injury.
Remedy
BMW recommends that you should not drive your car until the recall repairs are completed. Please contact BMW or your local dealership if you are unsure if your car falls within this recall or if you need further information. BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to replace the driver-front airbag inflator.

On certain cars, there may be a problem with the side curtain airbag inflators. This could cause the airbags to inflate with more force than normal in a crash. It could also cause the airbag inflator to separate. If this happens, pieces could be propelled toward the occupants.
Safety Risk
An airbag that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should not carry any passengers in your car until the recall repairs are completed. BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to replace the left and/or right head curtain airbags, as necessary.
On certain vehicles, the driver's airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture and metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material and cause injury to vehicle occupants.

On certain vehicles, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) may corrode due to a significant quantity of snow and/or water containing road salt or other contaminants entering the vehicle and saturating the acoustical padding beneath the floor carpet. If sufficient moisture collects and is retained in the padding, it may cause excessive corrosion under the module; compromising the module seal and allowing water intrusion and system malfunction. This may result in illumination of the Airbag Readiness light along with a "Service Airbag" message on the Driver Information Center and, in certain instances, may cause inadvertent deployment of the seatbelt pretensioner and/or airbags. Inadvertent airbag and/or pretensioner deployment could result in injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will remove the acoustical pad above the SDM, inspect, and if necessary, replace the SDM.
