On certain vehicles equipped with an optional tonneau cover where the front-most panel can be opened with the vehicle ignition key, the lock cylinder could bind. If the lock cylinder were to bind in the open position, the panel may not remain closed and the tonneau cover assembly could separate from the vehicle while it is being driven. This could potentially result in property damage and pose a hazard to other road users.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will affect repairs when service parts become available. In the interim, the panel release mechanism will be disabled or the tonneau cover removed, at the owner's choice.
On certain vehicle the sunroof may have been manufactured incorrectly and could be susceptible to breakage. Sunroof glass panel breakage, while the vehicle is in motion, could cause driver distraction, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Additionally, broken glass inside the vehicle could pose a risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
On certain motorcycles, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) has an incorrect character in the 10th position, identifying the model year of the vehicle as 2013 instead of 2014. Note: This does not pose a safety risk.
Safety Risk

On certain Santa Fe Sport, a mixture of moisture and road salt may enter the rear parking assist sensors (mounted in the rear bumper), which could result in an electrical short on the circuit board within the sensor cavity. This could cause the sensors to overheat, which could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace all four sensors for the Rear Parking Assist System.
On certain vehicles equipped with a dealer-installed accessory remote engine starter, if the fob is dropped, movement of the internal battery retaining clip may occur and cause damage to a component on the printed circuit board. Under this condition, the fob may transmit an engine start (or stop) request without the user pressing the button. If the vehicle is in range and receives the request, the engine may start and run for up to 15 minutes (or until a stop request is received). The engine may continue to start and stop until the fob battery is depleted, or until the vehicle runs out of fuel. If that occurs when the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area, such as a garage, there is a risk of carbon monoxide build-up, which could result in asphyxiation or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the remote engine starter fob.
On certain vehicles equipped with dealer-installed accessory puddle lights, a short circuit may develop causing the lights to melt and/or emit smoke. This could result in a fire causing property damage and/or injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an additional fused wiring harness to protect against short circuits.
On certain vehicles, excessive corrosion of the spare tire carrier lift plate may cause the separation of the spare tire stowed under the vehicle. The spare tire falling on the road surface creates a safety hazard that may result in a crash causing personal injury and/or property damage.
Certain vehicles fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Specifically, the compliance label identifies the vehicle type as "TRU/CAM" instead of "MPV/VTUM".
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Due to the inconsequential nature of this non-compliance, no action will be taken.
On certain vehicles equipped with Mercedes-Benz accessory allseason floor mats, the mats may interfere with the accelerator pedal when the pedal is fully depressed, causing the accelerator pedal to become temporarily stuck in the open position or to retract more slowly than normal. An accelerator pedal that does not retract normally could result in the vehicle not decelerating as expected when the driver lifts their foot from the accelerator pedal. This could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the all-season floor mats with an updated design.
One some motorcycles, the side stand was manufactured incorrectly and could bend or break while the motorcycle is parked. This could cause the motorcycle to fall over, causing personal injury to the rider or bystanders and/or property damage. Also, a bent or broken side stand could interfere with the functioning of the side stand safety switch, causing the motorcycle to fail to start and/or run properly.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the side stand with an updated version.
On certain motorcycles, the passenger footpeg pivot pin circlips were manufactured incorrectly and could fail. This could allow a footpeg to separate from the motorcycle, potentially striking another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the footpeg pivot pin circlips.
On certain vehicles, the moonroof glass may not have been correctly installed during vehicle assembly. A moonroof glass separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the glass adhesion and either apply additional adhesive or replace the moonroof glass.
On certain vehicles, stainless steel exhaust tips (part number 1K0 071 910 U), sold as over-the-counter accessories, can extend beyond the original length of the factory-installed exhaust pipes. Contact with warm exhaust tips could result in burn injuries.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the exhaust tips with updated versions.
On certain Triumph Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC motorcycles equipped with an accessory center stand, the stand return spring may fracture and fail. This could allow the center stand to contact the road surface while the vehicle is underway, which could distract the rider and result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
On certain Triumph Tiger 800, Tiger 800 XC and Sprint GT motorcycles, the accessory top box may not be adequately affixed to its carriage and could detach from the vehicle. A top box separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a locking clip onto the top box latch mechanism.
On certain motorcycles, when driven over bumpy roads, the accessory top box retaining mechanism may become deformed, which could allow the top box to detach from the vehicle. Should the top box separate from the vehicle it could strike another vehicle, a stationary object, or bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the existing top box with a redesigned version.
On certain vehicles, there is a possibility of overheating issues of batteries in the Garmin nüvi® 760 when certain batteries manufactured within a limited date code range are used in certain Garmin nüvi® 760 models with a specific printed circuit board (PCB) design. Toyota Canada, through its network of dealerships, offered for sale an accessory cruise control unit manufactured by Rostra Precision Controls, Inc., Model AP800 for 2006-2010 Yaris models. The Rostra accessory cruise control unit is mounted to the left of and below the steering wheel, behind the dashboard (below the cup-holder) with a switch on the steering column to enable the driver to activate it. Rostra has confirmed that, in very rare circumstances, when a mobile two-way radio (licensed for use by emergency personnel, under specific regulatory conditions and frequencies in Canada) is operated in the vehicle, the engine speed (RPM) can fluctuate or vary mildly, and for a short period of time. This can occur when the mobile handheld two-way radio is operated in the "transmit" mode at certain specific frequencies in very close proximity to the Rostra accessory cruise control unit under the dashboard. Also, if this condition does occur, the driver may notice a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on the dash and a reduction of engine power, allowing the operator to drive the vehicle to the shoulder or another safe location. Toyota has confirmed that this problem is not due to a defect in the vehicle's original equipment nor does this condition occur where a handheld Citizens' Band (CB) radio, cell phone or Bluetooth transceiver is operated in the vehicle.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
To ensure continued customer confidence in the safety and quality of their vehicle, Toyota Canada recommends that the Rostra accessory cruise control unit be removed from the vehicle. The removal of the Rostra cruise control unit will be performed at no cost and the original purchase price of the system will be reimbursed to owners. This action is a Customer Satisfaction Campaign and is not being conducted as per the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
