Certain vehicles equipped with remote start capability fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 208 - Occupant Restraint Systems. The safety belt reminder light for the driver's seating position does not illuminate after the ignition key is inserted and turned to the 'run' position following a remote start. As well, the audible chime for the driver's seating position will not sound if the driver and a front seat passenger enter the vehicle following a remote start, the passenger buckles his/her seatbelt within 25 to 33 seconds after the remote start, and the ignition key is then turned to the 'run' position. Note: This non-compliance condition has no affect on vehicle safety.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will recalibrate the Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) to activate an enhanced seatbelt reminder feature, which repeats the chime and telltale cycles up to two times if the seatbelt is not buckled and if the vehicles speed is over 8 km/h. This enhanced feature is already activated on 2007 vehicles.

On certain vehicles, the owner's manual does not contain information concerning a higher risk of rollover and special features for occasional off-road operation. Canadian regulations in this area differ from those in the United States and thus Canadian vehicles are not out of compliance. However, the visor label does refer to the owner's manual for further higher risk rollover information, therefore, DaimlerChrysler will mail an addendum card for insertion into the owner's manual. A bilingual visor label will also be included as part of this mailing for use as required.

Certain vehicles may have received an incorrect replacement Body Control Module (BCM). Specifically, if, during service, the BCM was replaced with P/N 284B1-CA508 or P/N 284B1-CA509, the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) could become inoperative. As a result, these vehicles would no longer comply with CMVSS 108. Since this action deals with replacement parts, it is a deemed a Service Campaign and is not being conducted under the Safety Act.
