The 2000 Acura TL has 6 recalls, the most serious involving the driver's front airbag inflator, which can rupture in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin, or alternatively fail to inflate fully and leave the driver without protection.
A separate recall covers replacement airbag inflator modules that were installed during prior repairs on some vehicles: those replacement units carry the same rupture risk, meaning the earlier repair may not have resolved the problem. The front passenger airbag also has a concern, as a component in the inflator was not properly welded and the airbag may not deploy correctly in a crash. On the restraint side, certain vehicles that received replacement seatbelt buckles during a prior repair window may have buckles that do not function as intended. On the drivetrain side, heat can build up between gears inside the automatic transmission, eventually chipping or breaking gear teeth and causing the transmission to lock up, which can leave the vehicle unable to move or behave unpredictably.
