NHTSA 5-Star Safety Rating
Complaints about the 2017 Acura TLX cluster most heavily around the powertrain and engine. On the powertrain side, owners report stalling at idle with no warning lights or stored codes, which makes the issue difficult to diagnose without reproducing it first. Engine and fuel system complaints are also common, with multiple owners describing a persistent fuel odor, in some cases appearing after repair work was already performed. A recurring issue involves the capless fuel filler neck, owners report the internal flap sticking closed, blocking the fuel nozzle and preventing refueling entirely. Several owners also describe continued fuel smell following service attempts, suggesting the underlying condition can persist after an initial fix.

By System
The 2017 Acura TLX has 3 recalls, the most serious involving a connecting rod bearing inside the engine that can wear and seize, causing the engine to stall or run improperly and raising the risk of a fire or crash.
Two separate recalls also cover fuel pump failures. In one, the fuel pump can fail outright and cut engine power while driving. In the other, which affects TLX models with the 3.5L V6, particulates in the fuel can build up on internal pump components and reduce fuel delivery enough to stall the engine. Both conditions leave the vehicle without power in traffic.
