The 2012 Aston Martin V8 Vantage has 5 recalls, the most serious involving updated transmission and engine control software that can conflict with clutch settings, causing the transmission to unexpectedly drop into neutral or produce abrupt gear shifts that raise the risk of a crash.
Two additional drivetrain recalls affect vehicles with automatic-shift manual transmissions: on 6-speed ASM models, a connector on the transmission fluid lines can break and leak hydraulic fluid, while on 7-speed SportShift II models, a connector on the clutch fluid line can do the same. In either case, the fluid loss can leave the transmission stuck in whatever gear it is in. There is also a seat heater concern: the electronic control module for the front seat heaters can fail in a way that prevents them from shutting off, allowing the seat surface to overheat and smolder. Finally, the interior door unlocking mechanism can fail to respond when the car has been locked from outside, potentially trapping an occupant inside the cabin.
