The 2019 Audi S5 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a rear axle lock nut that can break and misalign the rear axle, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
A related issue affects the front suspension on certain S5 Cabriolet and S5 Sportback trims: the front shock absorber forks can develop cracks, allowing the shock absorbers to loosen and impair steering. There is also a concern with the front passenger airbag sensor, which can fail to properly detect an occupant and disable the passenger airbag, leaving that seat without airbag protection in a crash. The rear axle misalignment issue also has a secondary consequence: when the axle sits out of alignment over time, it can cause uneven or accelerated tire wear that raises the risk of a tire-related crash.
