The 2008 BMW 3 Series has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk from a crankcase ventilation valve heater that can overheat and ignite a fire while driving or shortly after parking.
On the tire side, this recall only affects M3 models: tires may have been damaged by cold temperatures during transport, causing tread cracking that can lead to a blowout at highway speeds. The safety equipment recall covers faulty crimp connectors in the wiring for the side airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, where poor electrical contact can prevent both from deploying in a crash, leaving occupants without full protection. Also limited to M3 models, a software issue in the double-clutch transmission can trigger an unintended multi-stage downshift during hard braking, briefly interrupting power delivery to the wheels.
