The 2012 BMW 328xi has 4 recalls, the most serious being a driver's airbag inflator that can explode during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Two separate recalls address this airbag inflator risk, including one that specifically covers vehicles where the original steering wheel was replaced with a sport or M-sport wheel carrying the same defective inflator. There is also an electrical wiring connector defect that can cause a short circuit and start a fire. On the exterior lighting side, the side marker lights may fail to illuminate, making the vehicle harder to see at night and raising the risk of a crash.
